Meeting the Needs of the Hungry

At Christ the King, we offer several opportunities to help the hungry and needy, especially those in our community.

CROP Walk

Crop WalkCROP Walks are held annually around the country to raise money for local and world hunger relief. On the first Sunday in October, participants walk or run a 5K or 10K through a Cary neighborhood to raise money and awareness of the 24,000 people dying each day of hunger-related issues.  The 2012 Cary CROP Walk is Sunday October 7, starting at 2:00 p.m. and it is hosted here at CTK.

BackPack Buddies
Through BackPack Buddies, the InterFaith Food Shuttle puts nutritious food in the hands and homes of food-insecure children. The second Tuesday of every month, September-May, Christ the King visits InterFaith Food Shuttle to assist in the packing of Backpacks. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please sign up to receive BackPack Buddy emails on ChurchPost or contact Karen Maxwell.

Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels serves up hot and nutritious lunches, Monday through Friday, to the elderly, homebound and disabled of the community. One day a month, volunteers go to Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary and pick up six to 10 dinners and drinks.  Volunteers receive directions and addresses, and they go to each recipient’s house to drop off the meal and some good cheer.

Food Drives
Christ the King holds occasional food drives at off-season times of the year to resupply local food pantries.

ELCA World Hunger Appeal
ELCA World Hunger is a connected, comprehensive and compassionate program that helps individuals and communities lift themselves out of poverty into self-sufficiency. The international work of ELCA World Hunger is carried out with trusted partners, notably Lutheran World Relief and The Lutheran World Federation. Because of these long-held connections to partners around the world, ELCA World Hunger efforts are efficient and effective.  Christ the King raises funds for the World Hunger appeal throughout the year.

Egg Cartons
We recycle egg cartons for use by the Interfaith Food Shuttle. Bring your empty cartons to church and put them in the bins by the parlor.
