As you know, ASP doesn't just work on a house one week. Many crews come and work on projects at a house during the summer. After us, here is what happened at our sites:
Home of the Smashburger (aka Paula and Jim's Team): The next crew finished the siding on the home and installed some windows. A safe second exit was also built on the backside of the home.
Play. Laugh. Grow (aka Mary E and Bill's Team): The crew installed the sub-flooring on the room addition. The framework for the underpinning was also established. Lastly, they painted a bedroom inside the home.
Feed Your Wild Side (aka Scott and Rosemary's Team): The bathroom project was completed. The tub and shower were installed and a new sink was also put in place. The roof above the addition was redone with an increased pitch and new roofing.
The City that Moves Mountatins (aka Debbie & David's Team): The self adhering roof was completed. In addition, the f ...

Greetings! This is our last update from Pike County, Kentucky. We will post reflections as the weeks unfold and share some of our God moments with you! However, today, here is a quick update on where the teams finished.
Debbie & David’s Team:
Our team finished insulating the house and were successful installing a facet thanks to the hardwork of Debbie and Dan. The house is so much warmer. We also made friendship bracelets and our family made a pizza for us to eat together before we left. One of our highlights was seeing the family moving from being ashamed of the state of their house, to letting us in and ultimately helping us in fixing it up!
Here is shot of the group enjoying a snack after a long day.
Jim & Paula’s Team:
We finished all our work around lunch. The underpinning looked wonderful! The shiny metal stuff in the picture is underpinning.
We also found out that our home owner was in the hos ...

ASP Day Four
Day four started with a bang! I mean that literally—there was a lot of thunder and lightning as we got up! The rain didn’t keep us down though! We ate gathered for a devotion on the God being strong in our weakness, ate breakfast and loaded up the vehicles. Here are updates from the teams today!
Team Rosemary and Scott: I’d like to start off by giving you a quick summary of everything our group has done so far. We are very proud of how many new things we’ve been able to learn in such a small amount of time, and how much has been done to our house. We’ve learned how to apply underpinning, make and pour concrete, replace rotted joists, construct a new floor, build a new wall, insulate the floors and walls, plan for and shop for plumbing supplies (which we hope to install in the bathroom to a new tub system tomorrow), and install hooks, eyes, and handles on an access door. I would list the amount of new tools that we’ve used, but the list would be t ...

Here are the updates from today's work!
Jim and Paula’s Team: Today Ryan unloaded on the jungle and destroyed all the plants and foliage in way of the underpinning. Eric used the blunt end of axe to pound rebar into the ground and Gabi screwed in the sheet metal. Buck single-handedly cut an acre of wood today preparing the vertical slats in the underpinning frame. The circular saw made bucks epic muscles grow even bigger. The group was ecstatic when they discovered that they might actually finish their job!
Bonus points for creative band names to go along with this picture.
Scott & Rosemary’s Team: Today our team continued repairing the floor under the bathtub. We put a sister floor joist to help stabilize a rotted one under the bathtub. Then we put in a wall support on the two posts that were cemented in yesterday. Additionally, we learned that if we put our sandwiches in a coo ...

Day Two Updates:
Scott & Rosemary's Team: We continued our work on the underpinning as well as in the bathroom. On Day Two we cut open the back wall of the trailer and discovered that we needed to replace the floor joyces. We dug holes yesterday to support the joyces and then Holly and Caitlin mixed cement like crazy to set the posts.
Jim and Paula's Team: We framed the bottom of the house for the underpinning which included the drilling holes for the rebar, hammering foot long rebar sections in to the ground, measuring and cutting 2x4 supports and then finally attaching the underpinning metal. We got three sheets up yesterday.
Bill and Mary E's Team:
Here is an update written by Trevor and Neil: Today at ASP we built a frame for an addition to a mobile home. We put hours and hours of work into pouring concrete and drilling sill plates into this new foundation of a home. Trevor and Neil, the big strong men, cut some 2x4 with a circul ...

ASP Day One:
All the groups made it successfully their worksites, met the families and got to work! Most of our sites are about 25 minutes away, although Paula & Jim’s team does have a 45 minute drive to their worksite. Everyone came back having worked hard and were very thankful for showers!
Team “Feed Your Wild Side” (Rosemary, Scott, Steven, James, Sean, Caitlin and Holly)
When we arrived, our house was locked but we started working anyway! We got to underpinning the house. After the house got opened up, we demolished the bathroom including the removal of a steel tub. After the demolition, we discovered more work that needs done so this crew will be very busy this week!
Team “Play, Laugh, Grow” (Bill, Mary E, Jannes, Trevor, Neil, Megan, Madison)
When we got to our site, our family was not present so we started working. Soon though, the mom and kids came home. We stopped our work and spent time with t ...
